A high-performance team is not just the sum of individual talents, it's a relational alchemy. We can only understand how a department works if we look at the system as a whole.<\/li><\/ul><p><em>A concrete illustration<\/em> A company recruits the best experts in their field to form a project team. However, the results are disappointing: meetings drag on, decisions are delayed and tensions rise. The problem lies not in individual skills, but in the absence of shared rules of cooperation, a common language and mutual trust. <strong>It's the quality of interactions that makes for collective performance, not the sum of CVs.<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>The feedback principle <\/strong>Actions within the system generate reactions, which in turn influence future actions. We move away from a simple \u00abcause and effect\u00bb logic to a circular causality.<\/li><\/ul><p><em>An example of a feedback loop<\/em>\u00a0: A manager increases control to secure performance \u2192 employees feel less autonomous \u2192 initiative decreases \u2192 results deteriorate \u2192 the manager further reinforces control.<\/p><ul><li><strong>The principle of Dynamic Equilibrium :\u00a0<\/strong>Systems seek to maintain internal stability (homeostasis) in order to survive, while having to evolve to adapt to their environment. This mechanism explains why certain \u00abresistances to change\u00bb are not individual oppositions, but system protection reflexes.<\/li><\/ul><p><em>An illustration<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>A management team decides to introduce a new collaborative tool to \u00abbreak down silos\u00bb. Despite training, the tool is little used, and teams continue to operate as before. This is not due to ill will: the system has its habits, its points of reference, its informal balances (who talks to whom, who decides what). Introducing change without working on these invisible regulations provokes natural resistance, as the system seeks to preserve its internal coherence.<\/p><ul><li><strong>The principle of Equifinality:\u00a0<\/strong>In a complex system, identical results can have different origins. There's no \u00abone-size-fits-all\u00bb recipe: the same performance objective can be reached by a variety of routes, depending on the specific context of the team.<strong>.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p><em>A corporate illustration<\/em> Two sales teams achieve the same annual sales. The first operates with directive management, strict individual objectives and performance bonuses. The second team favors autonomy, cooperation and the sharing of collective successes. Same result, two totally different paths.
